Is it too early to blog about how my year went ?
To be honest 2012 is really an okay year for me . It was alright . What's a year without the usual complications right but this year it was rather manageable . I figured I really spent a lot of time on my own sorting myself out . I dont know if I can call it ' finding myself ' though . Ugh I really dont wan't this post to sound like a young adult novel . but what I can say is now I know myself better to avoid self-destruction over things that are absolutely pointless . to hell with unnecessary situations that brings nothing but uneasy thoughts in your mind and discomfort in your heart .
I think I say this every year , but THIS YEAR WENT BY SO FAST . Haha I remember in January thinking oh my god can I be done with school already . Now I don't want school to end . Ew I'm just kidding I love my current day to day do nothing but lounge life . There are times when I start to think ' ... what am I doing with my life I ... ' but then ' this is probably the only period in my life where I actually get to chill , do nothing and not feel guilty about it ' . Well maybe when I retire but I don't think I'll be spending late nights on youtube watching videos as random as watching a dog teaching you how to cook in a heavy english-japanese accent .
Are you bored yet ? Are you bored reading about my absolutely mundane life that Im OKAY with ?hahaha . It would be nice if I can attend more gigs next year . Hopefully Grimes at the mosaic music festival . It's in March so I hope the date doesn't clash with anything !! Also turning 18 next year is kind of lame because people will expect me to be wiser about things and uh I can't promise myself or anyone about being wiser .
Now to talk about the music of 2012 / music I got really comfortable with .
First of all ,
Holy Fire / FOALS .
Welcome back boys . The name Holy Fire really got me thinking ' aww so brutal ' . Holy Fire kicked off with Inhaler . I like where this is going . A heavy riffgasm track to start with , Yannis singing in falsetto really sets me in a trance . Damn this is something new . Of course I'm going to say it's different from their previous works with Antidotes&Total Life Forever . I know this song definitely brought it new fans . Honestly whatever band you're really into when they do something completely new, you can still detect their signature style in the song . So I'm really really excited for Holy Fire .
fragrant world / YEASAYER
Did you participate in the internet scavenger hunt ? Wasn't it fun ? Way to go unleashing the whole album via a scavenger hunt on the interwebz . They worked with artist Yoshi Sodeoka to create different vignette visuals for each song . Man it was fun finding each song , rubbing my eyes every 30 seconds , I think I might have a tiny case of epilepsy . The first track I heard was Henrietta , oh yeasayer , synths and is this dude in space vocals , go so well together .
a couple of my favourite tracks are Reagan's Skeleton and Longevity . Seeing them live next year is going to be awesome . Im hoping they'll play an equal amount of tracks from all 3 albums . WAIT FOR THE SUMMER AND 2080 IS COMPULSORY THOUGH . sorry , so demanding .
New wave / punk rock music circa 1970s-1990s .
Im convinced that a good dance song would be something in a foreign language with nonsensical lyrics . A perfect example would be Plastic Bertrand's Ce Plane Pour Moi . It really is quite impossible to not want to tap your feet , bop your head , whatever the heck groovy things to do with your body parts when this song is playing .
Another foreign band ( french ) I've started to like,
INDOCHINE
Just look at the ' I dont give damn ' face on the vocalist . It is possible to fall in love with things which doesn't necessarily need much understanding . I haven't even search for an english translation for this song and yet I'm listening to this on repeat and enjoying it every time .
